Getting Started On Your Invisalign Treatment
As a general practice we will confirm whether you are a candidate for Invisalign and review how the treatment process works. Before receiving your aligners, we will take intraoral scans of your teeth, as well as photos to note tooth relations and positioning, which are sent over to Invisalign specialists!. The lab uses the technology to predict the movement of your teeth and fabricates aligners specifically for you.
You will receive five aligners at once that you will use for two weeks at a time, and come back for new aligners every two to four months. We will ensure that your teeth are responding appropriately to treatment and being tracked. As you switch out your aligners, you will begin to notice the gradual movements your teeth are making.
There are different types of Invisalign depending on the severity of treatment. Whether it’s Invisalign Go which can be complete within six months. Some require longer treatment with more aligners than others depending on the severity of your case. See below to read about the specific types of treatment.
To determine the best course of action for your orthodontic treatment, we will get X-rays, photos, and virtual modeling of your mouth. These help your doctor calculate how extensive and long your treatment will be. This plan also determines the number of aligners you will need to straighten your teeth. Aligners are made to adjust the position of each tooth incrementally until they are all where they should be. They do this by putting pressure on specific teeth to straighten them.
You wear each set of aligners for a period of one-two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink hot liquids, or brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to their final positions. You’ll see us about once every 2 to 4 months to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.
This process is gradual, and with Invisalign can take anywhere from 2 to 28 months. During this time, you are barely limited in what you can eat, so your lifestyle doesn’t have to change.
Once we decide if Invisalign is the optimal choice for your needs for our office, we will take digital scans and send them to an Invisalign laboratory, along with your orthodontic photos and x-rays. Invisalign will use this information to design a treatment plan that predicts the movements of your teeth. With our state-of-the-art iTero scanner, there is no need to deal with messy impressions, all it takes is 5-10 minutes to scan your teeth.
You’ll be required to wear your Invisalign aligners for a minimum of 22 hours per day, only removing them to eat, drink hot liquids, play sports, and brush or floss.
